Northern and Training Commands dominate at Inter-Command Boxing Championship - 2026
The boxing rings at the Naval Dockyard buzzed with intense energy as the Inter-Command Boxing Championship-2026 concluded on a high note. Held from 10 to 14 Jun 26, the tournament saw strong competition among the finest boxers representing various Naval Commands. The Northern Naval Command punched their way to victory to claim the Men’s Championship, while the Training Command delivered a stellar performance to secure the Women’s Championship.
In the men's division, the Northern Naval Command put on a dominant display, capturing 05 gold medals and 01 silver medal to comfortably secure the top spot. Meanwhile, the women of the Training Command proved their mettle by clinching 03 gold medals, 02 silver medals and 02 bronze medals to walk away with the coveted women's title.
Individual brilliance was also spotlighted during the finals. Lieutenant PA Samarasinghe of the Northern Naval Command, who competed in the Men's 75-80 kg weight class, was adjusted the Best Boxer (Men). In the women's category, Women Ordinary Seaman PAKN Kumari from the Training Command earned the Best Boxer (Women) title after an outstanding performance in the 54-57 kg weight class.
The award ceremony was graced by the Commander Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Kosala Warnakulasooriya, as the chief guest. The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Navy Boxing Pool, Commodore Lanka Perera, alongside a gathering of senior officers and sailors representing the Naval Commands.
