Two (2) persons nabbed with fish suspected of explosive catch in Mulankavil

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 2 suspects and seized a cab (1) carrying over 370 kg of fish believed to have been caught using explosives during a search operation in Mulankavil, Mannar, on 15 September 2026.

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Buwaneka of the North Central Naval Command carried out the operation in the Yahappar beach area following credible information. Accordingly, they inspected the suspicious lorry and recovered the consignment of fish being prepared for transport.

The suspects, aged 29 and 48, were identified as residents of Mannar. The 2 suspects, together with the lorry and the illegal fish haul, were handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources office in Kilinochchi for onward legal action.
