Navy-built RO plant declared open in Galenbindunuwewa
A new Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant, established by the Sri Lanka Navy, was declared open today, 16 October 2026, at Padikaramaduwa Maha Vidyalaya in Galenbindunuwewa, Anuradhapura.
This magnanimous initiative was undertaken as part of the Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) project to provide students with access to safe drinking water. The school had faced a long-standing shortage of clean drinking water as its existing RO system was defunct. The malfunction had left students without a reliable source of safe drinking water for several years.
The new facility was established under the initiative of the Ministry of Health, with technical and engineering support from the Navy and financial assistance from Mr. Laksiri Abeysekara. Thus, the RO plant will help meet the daily drinking water needs of students at Padikaramaduwa Maha Vidyalaya.
With the opening of this facility, the Navy has established and handed over 1,163 RO plants for community use.
