Navy seizes stock of Kendu leaves in Negombo

The Sri Lanka Navy seized a stock of Kendu leaves, attempted to be smuggled into the country, during a search operation in the Seththappaduwa lagoon area in Negombo on 04 October 2026.

The operation was mounted by SLNS Kelani belonging to the Western Naval Command. Incidentally, the operation led to the search of a suspicious dinghy in the lagoon area and recovery of a sack, stuffed with over 37kg of Kendu leaves.

The seized dinghy and Kendu leaves were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for onward legal proceedings.
