Navy ferries supplies for Delft island development

The Sri Lanka Navy facilitated the sea transport of heavy machinery and essential supplies to Delft island in Jaffna on 6 and 10 September 2026 to support an ongoing infrastructure development project.

The initiative is part of a government plan to develop Delft island as a sustainable tourism destination. The project focuses on improving drinking water supplies, the road network, transport services and tourism-related infrastructure on the island.

Under the direction of the Northern Naval Command, naval vessels moved heavy machinery and suppllies from the Kurikadduwan jetty on Pungudutivu Island in the Jaffna Peninsula to Delft island.

The Navy continues to provide essential logistical support, enabling smooth execution of the development work on the island.
