Navy continues with national drive to combat dengue in Colombo
The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to support the sixth day (10 July 2026) of the national dengue prevention campaign aimed at curbing the spread of the disease in Colombo.
Operating under the theme “Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo”, the initiative is jointly organised by the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police. The campaign focuses on reducing mosquito breeding sites and raising public awareness about health and sanitation.
A contingent of 65 naval personnel from the Western Naval Command took part in the operations today. Working alongside Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat officials, and Public Health Inspectors, they inspected 61 locations across Mutwal, Borella, Kotte, Pitakotte, Panadura, Mahara, and Wattala.
During the inspections, teams identified 1,671 potential mosquito breeding habitats, which were immediately cleaned. Alongside the physical inspections, naval personnel and health officials conducted 82 community awareness sessions to educate residents on effective long-term preventive measures.
In parallel with the public campaign, the Navy has extended these preventative measures to its own facilities across the country.
