Eastern Naval Command emerges champion in Inter Command Cricket Tournament 2025

The final of Navy Inter Command Cricket Tournament 2025 was held at the Navy Cricket Ground in Welisara on 28th March 2025. In the final match, the Eastern Naval Command clinched the championship title, for which 09 teams vied.

The tournament's preliminary round matches were held under two (A and B) groups at the cricket grounds of SLNS Shiksha and Naval and Maritime Academy. In the meantime, the semifinal matches were played in Welisara.

For their formidable performances throughout the tournament, the North Central and Eastern Naval Commands met in the final. Batting first in the final, the Eastern Naval Command put up 260 all out in 50 overs. In chasing, the North Central Naval Command managed to score 203 all out in 43.5 overs. As the North Central and Eastern Naval Commands secured the championship and runner-up slots respectively, the Northwestern Naval Command beat the Training Command to win the third place in the tournament.

The tournament showcased several standout performances from following players.

1. Best Fielder - Engineering Mechanic WPAM Rajapaksha from Eastern Naval Command (6 catches)

2. Best Bowler - Lieutenant RABO Ranasinghe from Training Command (15 wickets)

3. Best Batsman - Leading Seaman RMGAK Rathnayake from North Central Naval Command (234 runs)

4. Man of the Match - Chief Petty Officer GVMME Fernando from Eastern Naval Command (76 runs)

5. Best All-Rounder - Leading Seaman RMGAK Rathnayake from North Central Naval Command (234 runs, 8 wickets and 4 catches)

The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando who also serves as the Chairman of SLN Cricket, flag-rank officers, junior officers and sailors were also present to witness the exciting final.
