Navy Sailing Club's unrivalled triumph at National Sailing Championship

The National Sailing Championship 2025, held on 24 and 25 Feb 25 at the Crow Island, Mattakkuliya concluded with resounding success as the Navy Sailing Club emerged as the undisputed champions, securing victories across all classes.

The event brought together 85 sailors (men and women) representing sailing clubs and schools from across the country. A historic highlight of the event was the participation of school children from Jaffna in a National Sailing Championship for the first time.

The Navy Sailing Club’s dominance was reflected in their outstanding performance across multiple classes. In the GP 14 class, Leading Seaman KC de Zoysa and Leading Engineering Mechanic TDS Perera claimed first place, followed by Petty Officer WAS Weerathunga and Petty Officer JPS de Silva in second and Leading Seaman AMJP Aththanayaka and Leading Seaman ASK de Soyza in third. The Enterprise class saw Leading Seaman KSK de Silva and Woman Leading Seaman MDM Subashini secure victory, with Leading Seaman AGP Asanka and Able Seaman AS Jothipala finishing second and Lieutenant PSS Gomes and Leading Seaman SPPN Kumara taking third place.

In the ILCA 6 category, Chief Petty Officer PDDS Rajapaksha emerged as the champion, with Leading Seaman JS Senavirathna securing second place and Petty Officer UD Rajapaksha finishing third. The ILCA 7 class was also dominated by Chief Petty Officer PDDS Rajapaksha, who claimed first place, followed by Leading Seaman JS Senavirathna in second place.

The event was graced by Director General Services, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Weerasooriya, as the Chief Guest. Retired senior naval officers, officers from the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command, sailors, parents of children and a large number of enthusiastic spectators were also present.
