Military athletes unite as 13th Defence Services Games commence in Panagoda
The 13th Defence Services Games was officially declared open at the Indoor Sports Stadium of Panagoda Army camp on 12th September 2024. The glittering ceremony was also attended by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.
Athletes from the armed forces play a significant role in achieving national and international sporting success for the country. The 13th Defence Services Games 2024/2025 will serve as a platform to discover new talents within the tri-services, offering them the chance to compete at both national and international levels in the years ahead.
Under the leadership and guidance of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, who also serves as President of the Navy Sports Board, the Navy has introduced numerous facilities and welfare provisions to support the advancement of sports within the organization. Leveraging these resources, Navy athletes have qualified to participate in the Defence Services Games, providing them with a valuable platform to progress to national and international competitions.
The opening of 13th Defence Services Games was held under the patronage of Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage. Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, senior and junior officers from the tri-services and athletes of the armed forces were also present on this occasion.
