Inter Command Triathlon Championship - 2024 concludes
The Inter Command Triathlon Championship - 2024 was held at the Naval Dockyard and Sandy Bay beach in Trincomalee on 27th and 28th April 2024. The event was graced by the Commandant Naval & Maritime Academy and the Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamege, as the Chief Guest. The Eastern Naval Command secured victory in the men's championship of the tournament, while the Training Command emerged victorious in the women's championship.
Fifty-four (54) athletes from all Naval Commands participated in the tournament. The multiple-stage competition tested the skills of the competitors who displayed their overall fitness, skill and endurance in three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines: swimming (750m), cycling (20km) and running (5km).
In the men's category, Ordinary Seaman SACD Darmasena from the Eastern Naval Command won the 01st Place. Meanwhile, the second and third titles were won by Leading Mechanical Engineering GSN Perera from the Training Command and Ordinary Seaman ADTL Munasinghe from the Eastern Naval Command.
In the women’s category, the first place was secured by Women Able Physical Training Instructor GDD Sakunthala from the Training Command. The second title was clinched by Women Able Physical Training Instructor EMAGLB Edirisinghe from the Western Naval Command and the third position by Women Able Physical Training Instructor WGGP Amarasinghe from North Central Naval Command.
A group of senior officers from the Eastern Naval Command as well as officers and sailors representing other Naval Commands were present on this occasion.
