Navy shines in Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya - 2024

The Sri Lanka Navy showcased its cycling prowess in Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya – 2024, held from 03rd to 08th March under five stages. The event, supervised by the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation, witnessed intense competition among participants.

The men's race covered a total distance of 642 kilometers, with numerous cyclists representing prominent cycling clubs from the island. The first leg of the race spanned 118 kilometers from Galle to Kandy. The second stage, from Kandy to Polonnaruwa, was 143 kilometers long, and in this stage, Able Seaman PPPMG Silva secured third (03rd) place.

The third segment of the race covered a 135 km route from Polonnaruwa to Trincomalee. In the fourth stage, spanning 142 kilometers from Trincomalee to Vavuniya, Able Seaman PPPMG Silva clinched the top spot.

The 144-kilometer fifth stage from Vavuniya to Jaffna concluded near the Duraiappa Stadium, Jaffna. Navy cyclist Able Seaman PPPMG Silva, with the support of the cycling team, clinched the overall championship. Additionally, in the overall tournament, Ordinary Seaman KPMP Delgoda secured the 19th place, Ordinary Seaman PDSP Chandika secured the 21st place, and Leading Seaman GNS Silva secured the 22nd place.

The 97-kilometer women's cycling event, starting from Mankulam, concluded near Duraiappa Stadium. Woman Ordinary Seaman KASN Perera, supported by her cycling team, achieved the fastest time and secured the team runner-up position, as well as the overall tournament title. Additionally, Navy’s Woman Ordinary Seaman WWAA Sandamini achieved 04th place in the tournament.
