Navy sets three national records at National Weightlifting Championship

Sri Lanka Navy’s Woman Able Seaman BC Priyanthi on 28th December 2023 set three (03) national records at the National Weightlifting Championship 2023. The tournament is being held from 27th to 30th December at the National Sports Complex, Gallalla in Polonnaruwa.

The National Weightlifting Championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Association, is held under the patronage of Ministry of Sports. Fourteen (14) Navy athletes are competing in the tournament, alongside participants from prominent weightlifting sports clubs across the island, including those associated with the Armed Forces.

Competing in the 87kg senior women’s weightlifting event, Woman Able Seaman BC Priyanthi dominated the competition, setting 03 new national records in both snatch (90kg) and clean and jerk (113kg), while achieving the highest total weight (203kg) lifted by any female athlete in the country’s history.
