Western Naval Command wins overall championship in Inter-command Table Tennis Tournament

The Inter-command Table Tennis Tournament was held at the Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex from 20th to 24th June 2023. Showcasing their exceptional table tennis skills, the men’s and women’s championship titles were won by the Western Naval Command. Meanwhile, the Northern Naval Command became runners up in both men’s and women’s categories.

The five-day event, brought together 09 men’s teams and 06 women’s teams from all naval commands, promoting sportsmanship and friendly competition. The final day of the tournament was graced by Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva. In the tournament, the open women's singles championship was won by Woman Leading Physical Training Instructor HPM Hapugaspitiya and the open men's singles championship was secured by Leading Physical Training Instructor LGSM Perera. The awards for emerging player of the year were won by Ordinary Seaman SG Wijesooriya (men’s) and Woman Medical Assistant AMSHD Athapaththu (women’s).

Director Sports Commodore Roshan Athukorala, senior officers and a group of officers and sailors from naval commands were present on this occasion.
