Training Command showcases promising talents in Inter-command Triathlon Championship
In an exhilarating display of athleticism, the Inter-command Triathlon Championship unfolded at the Naval Dockyard and Sandy Bay beach on 18th June 2023. The event was graced by the Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Mahesh De Silva. Showcasing the remarkable physical prowess and competitive spirit, the Training Command won both men’s and women’s overall team championships in the Inter-command Triathlon Championship.
The tournament was participated by 68 athletes from all Naval Commands. The multiple-stage competition tested the skills of the competitors who displayed their overall fitness, skill and endurance in three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines: swimming (750m), cycling (20km) and running (5km).
In the men's individual category, Leading Infantryman KMGU Laksiri from the Southern Naval Command won the 01st Place. Meanwhile, the second and third places were won by Midshipman KNT Perera and Leading Diver PPRJ Kumara from the Training Command respectively.
In the women’s individual category, the first place was secured by Woman Able Physical Training Instructor, EMAGLB Edirisinghe from the Southern Naval Command. The second place was won by Women Able Physical Training Instructor GDD Sakunthala from the Western Naval Command. Meanwhile, Women Able Physical Training Instructor HWH Madumali from the Eastern Naval Command won third place.
A group of senior officers from the Eastern Naval Command as well as officers and sailors from other naval commands were present at this event.
