Gold medal winning Navy athletes recognized with cash prizes as token of appreciation
Sri Lanka Navy gold medalists in international athletic meets – Woman Petty Officer Gayanthika Abeyrathne and Able Seaman SMASM Subasinghe, with their medals and awards, met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters today (20th June 2023). Appreciative of their performances, which brought a lot of credit to the motherland, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, who is also the President of Sri Lanka Navy Sports Board, awarded cash prizes to both athletes and encouraged them to pursue their sporting career.
Woman Petty Officer Gayanthika Abeyrathne showcased promising talent and emerged victorious by winning the gold medal in the women's 800m event in the 39th Shizuoka International Athletics Meet & 10th Kinami Machitaka Memorial Athletics Meet – 2023 held in Osaka, Japan from 03rd to 21st May 2023. Meanwhile, para athlete Able Seaman SMASM Subasinghe achieved a remarkable feat by winning the gold medal in the 400m (T47) event at the ‘Dubai Grand Prix 2023 - 14th Fazza’ World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2023.
Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the President of Sri Lanka Navy Sports Board, recognized and valued the outstanding performances of the athletes, which not only reflected positively on the country but also earned them respect. In appreciation, he awarded monetary rewards to the athletes and motivated them.
