12th Defence Services Triathlon Championship concludes in Trincomalee

The 12th Defence Services Triathlon Championship -2023 hosted by the Sri Lanka Navy was successfully held in the Thiriyaya sea area and Kuchchaweli town on 04th April 2023. The Sri Lanka Navy athletes put in strong performances in their events and emerged runners up in the championship. The event was held under the patronage of Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara.

Top male and female athletes from across the tri forces competed in a the tournament which was a grueling test of endurance and skill. From the Navy, it was participated by 10 male and 03 female athletes. The endurance multisport race consisted of swimming (750m), cycling (20km), and running (05km) segments that tested physical and mental stamina of the participants.

Leading Diver JDPP Jayasinghe of the Navy took top honours by winning the first place in the men’s category in which the second place also went to Able Seaman RMPS Bandara. Their performance largely helped the Navy to become the runners up of the championship.

Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest gave away trophies and certificates to the champions (Sri Lanka Army), the runners up (Sri Lanka Navy) and other achievers. A group of senior and junior officers and other ranks of the tri forces was also present on this occasion.
