Western Naval Command wins Inter-command Football Championship - 2023

The Inter - command Football Championship – 2023 was held at the soccer ground of Welisara Naval Complex from 17th to 23rd March 2023. The overall championship of the tournament was won by the Western Naval Command.

The championship saw intense competition among all naval commands, with their teams vying for the coveted title.

The final of the tournament was held on 23rd March between the Western Naval Command and the Eastern Naval Command. After the two teams played skillfully and drew the game 02-02, the Western Naval Command won the Inter - command Football Championship - 2023 by winning the penalty shoot - out 05-04.

Accordingly, the Eastern Naval Command became the runner-up. The second runner-up title was won by the Northwestern Naval Command, winning the game against the Training Command 02-01.

A retired and serving veterans’ football encounter was also held in conjunction with this tournament, and the retired veterans’ football team won the game 02-01.

The prize awarding ceremony of the tournament was held under the patronage of Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva. Senior and junior officers of the Western Naval Command, retired senior officers and sailors were also present on this occasion.
