Navy wins men's team championship in table tennis at 12th Defence Services Games

The table tennis tournament of the 12th Defence Services Games was held at the Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex on 14th, 15th and 16th December 2022. The tournament was held under the patronage of Director Sports of the Sri Lanka Navy, Commodore Roshan Athukorala. Exhibiting stellar performance in the tournament, the Navy clinched the men's team championship.

The tournament was held under men's and women's categories. In open men's singles Ordinary Seaman NS Ranchagoda won the third place. In over 40 men's singles, Able Seaman PDIP Silva, Rear Admiral LHA Ranasooriya and Commodore WHA Bowaththa won the first, second and third places respectively.

In the meantime, Rear Admiral P Vithana and Able Seaman PDIP Silva bagged the championship in over 40 men's doubles. The runner up slot of the same event was also secured by Rear Admiral LHA Ranasooriya and Commodore WHA Bowaththa. Winning the second runner up position, Commodore HSK Dissanayake and Capitan NH Karandeniya booked all the major places for the Navy. In addition, Ordinary Seaman NS Ranchagoda and Woman Ordinary Seaman HP Kapugeekiyana won the championship in mixed doubles and Able Seaman PDIP Silva and Ordinary Seaman NS Ranchagoda secured the third place in open men's doubles.

In women's category, Woman Ordinary Seaman HP Kapugeekiyana clinched the championship in open women's and Woman Leading Seaman (Physical Training Instructor) RKK Malini won the third place in over 30 women's singles. In addition Woman Leading Seaman (Physical Training Instructor) HPM Hapugaspitiya and Woman Ordinary Seaman HP Kapugeekiyana also open women's doubles.
