Navy’s Nisansala Sandamali wins bronze in Combaxx 4th Asian Open Taekwondo Championship 2022
Sri Lanka Navy’s Women Able Seaman Nisansala Sandamali won a bronze medal in the Combaxx 4th Asian Taekwondo Open Championship 2022, held in Islamabad, Pakistan on 03rd November 2022. She contested in the 67 kg weight class with a player from Nepal in the Combaxx 4th Asian Taekwondo Open Championship which is considered for player ranking.
Nisansala Sandamali, who is ranked 96th in the World Taekwondo Rankings, will move further up with this win. Moreover, this is also the highest ranking achieved by a Sri Lankan athlete in the World Taekwondo Rankings.
Contested in the 62/67kg weight class she also won a silver medal for the country at the Mount Everest International Open Taekwondo Championships 2022, held in Pokhara Nepal in the month of September. Women Able Seaman Nisansala Sandamali has won Navy Colours for her significant achievements in taekwondo in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. Further, she has represented Sri Lanka in the World Military Taekwondo Championship – 2018 in Brazil as well as international championships held in Indonesia and Thailand.
Under the able guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne who is also the President of Navy Sports Board, the Navy has made available a number of infrastructure, training opportunities and welfare-provisions for the promotion of the sports in the Navy. Taking the maximum advantage of these amenities, the Navy athletes have made significant achievements in sports both at national and international level.
