Exhibiting sterling performances in tennis at the 11th Defence Services Games held in 2021, Sri Lanka Navy finished the tournament on a winning note clinching the tennis championship. On conclusion of the tournament the prize awarding ceremony was held at the Sri Lanka Army Tennis Court, Narahenpita, under the patronage of Commander of the Navy and President Navy Sports Board, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on 20th March 2021.

Navy clinches Defence Services Tennis Championship

Exhibiting sterling performances in tennis at the 11th Defence Services Games held in 2021, Sri Lanka Navy finished the tournament on a winning note clinching the tennis championship. On conclusion of the tournament the prize awarding ceremony was held at the Sri Lanka Army Tennis Court, Narahenpita, under the patronage of Commander of the Navy and President Navy Sports Board, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on 20th March 2021.

The tournament was held from 13th to 20th March 2021 at the Sri Lanka Army Tennis Court and tennis players representing the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force competed in the team event, open event, over 45 singles and doubles, over 50 singles and doubles categories.

Sri Lanka Navy managed to secure 01 gold medal in open singles, 02 golds in open doubles, 01 gold and 01 silver in over 45 singles, and 02 golds and 02 silver medals in its doubles. Further, the Navy also won the gold and silver medals in over 50 singles while securing 02 gold medals in its doubles.

Further, the Navy won 09 gold medals winning all the events of the tournament. Apart from that the Navy won another 04 silver medals in the tournament while the Army securing 03 silver medals and Air Force securing 02 silver medals. Incidentally, the Navy became the champions in the tournament with overall 57 points as the Army became runners up with 42 points.

Meanwhile, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe, Director General Personnel, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva, Director Naval Sports, Commodore ASL Gamage, senior and junior officers and other ratings from tri services were also present at the prize awarding ceremony.
