A special operation conducted by the Navy in Urumalai area, Talaimannar made way to the recovery of over 18kg of Kerala cannabis on 01^st March 2021.

Sri Lanka Navy, with the facilitation of Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Colombo) stationed at Navy Headquarters, leapt into action today (27^th February 2021) to rescue 02 fishermen aboard a dinghy that was swept away to the Indian waters. The dinghy that had ventured out for fishing practice from South Bar, Mannar was in distress due to a technical failure.

The Navy and Police managed to apprehend a suspect (01) with commercial explosives known to be water gel and safety fuses, during a coordinated operation carried out in Kinniya, Trincomalee on 24^th February 2021.

Naval operations conducted in Karsal, Mannar and seas off Thaulpadu, Mannar on 16th February 2021, led to the arrest of a suspect with over 02kg of Kerala cannabis and apprehension of 02 suspects attempting to smuggle over 400kg of dried turmeric into the island via sea.

The Navy managed to apprehend 03 suspects with over 16kg of Kerala cannabis during special operations conducted in Uduththurei, Jaffna and Uppukulam, Mannar on 15th February 2021.

Naval operations carried out from 01st January to 15th February 2021 in Western, Eastern, Northern, Northwestern, North Central and Southern, Naval Commands, led to the apprehension of 179 persons along with 42 fishing boats, a lorry, a three-wheeler and fishing accessories, for engaging in illegal fishing.

The Navy managed to recover about 67kg and 500g of Kerala cannabis, during a special operation conducted in Manthai area, Mannar on 29th January 2021.

A special operation conducted by Navy in Manthai area on 26th January 2021 led to the recovery of about 31kg of Kerala cannabis.

A special operation carried out by the Navy at Daluwa beach in Kalpitiya today (26th January 2021) led to the apprehension of 03 suspects and seizure of about 1340kg of dried turmeric as well as 80kg of glyphosate attempted to be smuggled into the country.

The high tide experienced last evening (24th January) refloated the bulk carrier MV Eurosun that ran aground on the Little Basses Reef, about 5.5 nautical miles (10km) off the southeastern coast of the island on 23rd January. Following the ship moved out of the danger, it was anchored in a safer area about 05 nautical miles southwest of the Little Basses Reef.
