Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard managed to recover another haul of Kerala cannabis weighing over 183kg, during a special operation in the seas north of Kankesanthurai in Jaffna, today (03rd May 2021).

Sri Lanka Navy has deployed more naval units to patrol the northern and northwesters waters of the island around the clock, following the possibility of illegal migrants entering the shores of Sri Lanka via sea routes, which could surge the transmission of COVID pandemic in the country.

The Navy pressed into service once again to remove heaps of debris collected under the Wakwella bridge, across the Gin Ganga in the Wakwella area, on 01st May 2021.

Sri Lanka Navy on 27th and 28th April 2021 apprehended 02 Indian dhows, loaded with about 2790kg of dried turmeric, about 803 kg of cardamom and several other consumer goods, in northwestern waters of the island, across the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Apart from the above consignments, 12 Indian nationals aboard 02 dhows were also held by the Navy.

A special operation conducted by the Navy in the seas off Sillalai, Jaffna on 28th April 2021, made way to get hold of over 240kg of Kerala cannabis.

Special operations carried out by the Navy in the Munnakkarai lagoon area, Negombo as well as in seas off Kudiyiruppu and Pesalai, Mannar from 17th to 20th April 2021 made way for the seizure of over 1263kg of dried turmeric attempted to be smuggled into the country and apprehension of 05 suspects involved in the rackets.

A special operation conducted by the Navy and Mannar Police in Muddalampiddi, Mulankavil today (18th April 2021) led to the apprehension of 03 suspects with over 89kg of Kerala cannabis.

A naval operation conducted in the seas off Kochchikade, Negombo led to the seizure of about 770kg of Kendu leaves attempted to be smuggled into the island and apprehension of 06 suspects, in the early hours on 10th April 2021.

The Navy carried out special operations in the Eastern Naval Command during the past week, with a view to prevent illegal fishing practices conducted using commercial explosives. During these operations, the Navy managed to nab 02 suspects with several commercial explosives devised for blast fishing.

A special operation carried out by the Navy in Kondachchikuda, Silawathura made way for the apprehension of 20 individuals whom were suspected to have attempted to illegally migrate to a foreign country by sea on 06th April 2021.
