Sri Lanka Navy on the night of 11th August 2022 brought ashore a local fishing trawler in distress in seas, about 68 nautical miles (125km) off the Galle Lighthouse, due to a mechanical failure.

Navy seizes poaching trawler in Sri Lanka’s waters off Mullaitivu

Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special operation to chase away Indian trawlers poaching in island’s waters today (10th August 2022). The operation led to the seizure of an Indian trawler with 09 Indian fishermen, while poaching in Sri Lanka’s waters off Mullaitivu, via the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

Forty - six (46) illegal immigrants held by Australian Border Force brought to the island

The Australian Border Force Cutter (ABFC) - Ocean Shield, carrying 46 illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka, arrived at the Port of Colombo this morning (05th August 2022). The group of illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka was held by the Australian Border Force on 21st July 2022 at the Australia’s maritime border, while they were attempting to illegally migrate to Australia via sea.

Navy clears blockages under several bridges in Galle, averting a flood threat

Sri Lanka Navy on 03rd August 2022 yet again pressed into action to clear blockages under Agaliya and Dodamgoda Bridges in Galle, as downstream of water at those locations has been blocked by tree remains and debris. Due to heavy rains received in the past couple of days, the water level in the Gin Ganga had risen, hampering the free flow of water under those bridges.
