A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Food and Drugs Inspector Unit in Anuradhapura on 14th August 2023 led to the apprehension of a suspect with 11377 capsules of Pregabalin 150mg. The prescription drug had been available for sale by illegal means at a pharmacy in front of the Divisional Hospital Medawachchiya, when the apprehension was made.

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of about 318kg (wet weight) of Kendu leaves washed ashore at Serakkuliya, during a foot patrol and a search operation conducted at Serakkuliya beach on 12th August 2023.

In a dramatic operation, the Sri Lanka Navy rescued 07 fishermen, who were on a local fishing trawler which caught fire about 58 nautical miles (approx. 107km) off the Galle Lighthouse, west of Sri Lanka, on 11th August 2023. The operation was mounted in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC) Colombo. The rescued fishermen were brought to the Galle harbour today (12th August) by SLNS Gajabahu.

The Navy apprehended 04 suspects with a stock of smuggled Kendu leaves weighing about 551kg (wet weight) during a search operation conducted off the Mattathivu island in Kalpitiya lagoon on 11th August 2023. The operation also led to the seizure of 02 dinghies used to smuggle the contraband items.

In a remarkable display of compassion, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to rescue a stranded whale in the Puttalam lagoon off the Ippanthivu island, guiding it back to the open ocean waters today (08th August 2023). The stranded whale measuring approx. 20 feet in length belonging to the species of minke whale.

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special operation to chase away Indian poaching trawlers from Sri Lankan waters this morning (07th August 2023). The operation led to the seizure of an Indian trawler (01) with ten (10) Indian nationals poaching in island waters off Alampil in Mullaitivu.

The Sri Lanka Navy and Police apprehended a suspect with over 227kg of Kerala cannabis, during a combined search operation conducted in Ponnalei, Jaffna on 05th August 2023. The operation also lead to the seizure of a lorry used to smuggle narcotic drugs.

The Navy apprehended 10 individuals on 03rd and 04th August 2023 in Nilaweli and Lankapatuna in Trincomalee, while they were engaging in illegal fishing activities. During these search operations, the Navy also held illegally caught fish, 116 illegally harvested sea cucumbers, 03 dinghies and diving gear.

The Navy apprehended a suspect with a stock of smuggled Kendu leaves weighing about 75kg (wet weight) during a search operation conducted in Serakkuliya beach area this morning (04th August 2023). The apprehension was made when the suspects was making arrangements to transfer the contraband item by a three-wheeler.

Separate operations conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in Jayanagar with the assistance of Kuchchaveli Police, and Poduwakattu sea area on 31st July and 03rd August 2023 led to the apprehension of a suspect as well as 05 commercial explosive sticks, 14 set-up charges and 17 non-electric detonators.
