The Sri Lanka Navy swiftly responded to bring ashore a critically ill fisherman and transfer him to the General Hospital, Trincomalee for urgent medical attention on 01 Mar 25. The fisherman was aboard a local multiday fishing trawler which was off the east coast of Trincomalee.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 05 Indian fishing boats and apprehended 32 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar in the dark hours of 22 and wee hours of 23 Feb 25.

Separate operations conducted by the Navy with the assistance of Police and Police STF from 03 to 19 Feb 25 in Silawathura, Wilpattu, Cod Bay in Trincomalee as well as Kimbula Ela and Kovil Road in Modara led to the arrest of 07 suspects with an assortment of narcotic substances. Among the apprehended items were; 20g of Kerala cannabis, 1050mg of ‘Mawa’ drug, and 26g and 376mg of methamphetamine (Ice).

The Navy apprehended 17 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing practices, during separate operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Kokkadi, Nandikadal, Mullaitivu, Anawasala, Sinnapadu and Kadeikadu from 03 to 19 Feb 25. The individuals had engaged in fishing using explosives, fishing with unauthorized nets sans valid license and illegal night diving, when the apprehensions were made. The operations also resulted in the seizure of 12 fishing boats, 01 motorbike, 156 unauthorized fishing nets, 184 sea cucumbers and 22 conch shells.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 03 Indian fishing boats and apprehended 10 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar and off the Delft Island in the dark hours of 19 Feb 25.

The Navy apprehended 05 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing practices, during separate operations conducted in the sea area of Muddalampiddi in Kilinochchi and Nandikadal lagoon in Mullaitivu from 03 to 12 Feb 25. The individuals engaged in illegal night diving and fishing with unauthorized nets when the apprehensions were made. The operations also resulted in the seizure of 04 fishing boats and 250 unauthorized fishing nets used for these illegal acts.

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Daluwa area in Puttalam on 11 Feb 25 led to the seizure of a cab which was transferring about 1158kg and 60g of smuggled dried ginger and 45kg of dried fish. The search also resulted in the apprehension of 03 suspects in connection to the illegal act.

The Sri Lanka Navy assisted to bring a stranded trawler with a foreign tourist couple back to shore safely, on the night of 09 Feb 25. The trawler had been adrift at sea between Delft Island and Kurikadduwan due to an operational failure, without fuel.

Coordinated search operations conducted by the Navy with Anti-Corruption Unit and Police STF resulted in the arrest of 02 suspects with about 03g and 370mg of Methamphetamine (Ice) and 400 illegal cigarettes in Medawachchiya on 08 Feb 25.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 02 Indian fishing boats and apprehended 14 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar in the dark hours of 08 Feb 25.
