The Navy apprehended 08 persons who engaged in illegal fishing practices, during special operations conducted off Kalpitiya, Baththalangunduwa and Uchchamunai on 19th December 2023. The operations also led to the seizure of 03 dinghies, about 1995 illegally harvested sea cucumbers as well as diving equipment.

Following adverse weather conditions prevailing in several parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy has mobilized its flood relief teams in Balakawala area of Athuraliya in the Matara district since 12th December 2023. Standing with flood victims, teams are providing much-needed assistance to those affected communities as of now.

Sri Lanka Navy divers undertook a dedicated mission on 16th and 17th December 2023, to repair the malfunctioning sluice gates of the Peraru Reservoir. These efforts, prompted by recent heavy rainfall, aimed to facilitate the discharge of excess rainwater accumulating in the Peraru Reservoir, situated in the Peraru Kulam area of the Vavuniya district.

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special operation to chase away Indian poaching trawlers from Sri Lankan waters on 17th December 2023. The operation led to the seizure of 01 Indian trawler with 14 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters off the Kovilan Lighthouse, Kareinagar.

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of 02 dinghies with a consignment of smuggled Tendu leaves, during a special operation carried out in the sea area of Negombo today (17th December 2023). The apprehended stock of Tendu leaves weighed over 1143kg. The Navy also nabbed 04 suspects in connection to the illegal act.

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 04 persons for illegally transporting dried sea cucumber, during a special operation conducted in Mannar seas in the wee hours of 16th December 2023. The operation also led to the seizure of 02 dinghies and over 808kg of dried sea cucumber.

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 02 suspects with 2820 Pregabalin capsules, during a special search operation conducted with the Police near the Kallaru roadblock, Silawathura and in Achchanakulam area on 15th December 2023.

In the wake of inclement weather, the Navy mobilized its relief teams in Parakramapura of Padaviya, Anuradhapura since 03rd December 2023. Committed to their relief efforts, the Navy teams have been continuing their services in full swing even today (15th December).

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 17 persons for engaging in illegal fishing, during separate operations conducted off Silawathura, Vankalai in Mannar, Kalmunai Point in Jaffna and beach area of Negombo on 13th December 2023. The operations also led to the apprehension of 06 dinghies, diving gear and about 743 illegally harvested sea cucumbers.

In the wake of inclement weather prevailing in several parts of the island, the Navy has swiftly mobilized its relief teams in Parakramapura of Padaviya, Anuradhapura since 03rd December 2023. Demonstrating their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Navy relief teams are currently engaged to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities.
