In a remarkable display of its expertise, the Sri Lanka Navy on 03rd May 2024 cleared blockages under the Dodangoda and Agaliya bridges over Gin River in Baddegama area of Galle, ensuring the smooth flow of water downstream.

The Navy nabbed 06 persons for engaging in illegal light-coarse fishing, during a search operation conducted in the sea area of Chalai, Jaffna on 03rd May 2024. The operation also led to the seizure of 03 dinghies and unauthorized fishing gear used by the suspects.

Coordinated search operations conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard in the sea areas of Vankalei and Pallimunai, Mannar on 29th and 30th April 2024 led to the apprehension of 13 persons for illegal harvesting of sea cucumber. The operations also resulted in the confiscation of 777 illegally harvested sea cucumbers, diving gear and 05 trawlers.

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy with the Army and Police Narcotic Bureau, led to the recovery of approx. 1229kg of Tendu leaves in Mohoththuwaram in Kalpitiya on 30th April 2024. It is suspected that the stock of Tendu leaves has been smuggled into the country via sea.

A search operation conducted by the Navy on Norway Island off Muthur on 28th April 2024 led to the recovery of a cache of explosives hidden in a ramshackle building in the area. Among the recovered items were 02 water gel sticks - a type of commercial explosives, 01 non-electric detonator, a 25 cm long safety fuse and 150g of TNT explosive.

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard in the sea area of Pesalai, Mannar on 28th April 2024 led to the apprehension of 04 persons for illegal harvesting of sea cucumber. The operation also resulted in the confiscation of 343 illegally harvested sea cucumbers and 02 dinghies.

The Navy nabbed 10 persons for engaging in illegal fishing using commercial explosives, during separate operations conducted in the sea areas of Poduwakattu in Trincomalee and Kondachchikuda in Silawathurai on 26th and 27th April 2024. The operations also led to the seizure of 02 dinghies, diving gear and unauthorized fishing equipment.

The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an ill fisherman whose life was at risk while aboard a local multi day fishing trawler in southern waters of Sri Lanka. The fisherman was retrieved by a Merchant Vessel in the sea area, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. After being brought ashore on 27th April 2024, he was rushed to the General Hospital, Colombo for medical attention.

The Navy nabbed 09 persons, along with 04 dinghies, unauthorized nets and fishing gear, for engaging in illegal fishing activities, during a search operation conducted in the sea area off Chalei, Jaffna on 24th April 2024. The individuals involved were caught by the Navy, whilst they were engaging in fishing with unauthorized nets and participating in light course fishing.

The Navy took hold of over 10kg of Kerala cannabis, during a search operation conducted with the Division Crime Investigation Bureau Mannar in the Vankalai area, Mannar on 21st April 2024. The operation also led to the apprehension of 4 suspects and 1 van in connection to this incident.
