Navy helps flood-hit communities with urgent assistance

In response to the severe weather conditions, the Navy has mobilized its relief teams to assist those affected by floods in the Western, Southern, and Sabaragamuwa provinces. These relief teams are actively engaged in ongoing operations, utilizing small boats to safely rescue flood-affected individuals and cater to their daily necessities.

Six (06) fishermen rescued from distress trawler brought ashore by Navy

The Sri Lanka Navy this morning (02nd June 2024) brought ashore the 06 fishermen whom were rescued from a distressed trawler. The fishermen were rescued by a tanker about 480 nautical miles (889km) off Dondra, south of Sri Lanka, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo.

Navy stands ready with relief teams ahead of possible flood emergency

As severe weather conditions threaten the island, the Sri Lanka Navy proactively deployed relief teams on 01st June 2024, to vulnerable areas in the districts of Kalutara, Galle, and Matara. These teams are actively engaged in disaster relief operations, working tirelessly to provide necessary aid and support to affected communities.

Navy apprehends 11 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in northern waters

The Navy nabbed 11 persons for engaging in illegal fishing practices, during separate operations conducted in the sea areas of Kadeikadu, Chundikulam, Kudarappu and Nagar Kovil in Jaffna on 31st May 2024. The operations also led to the seizure of 05 dinghies, unauthorized fishing gear and diving equipment employed for these illegal acts as well as about 1100 sea cucumbers.

Navy assists rescue of fishermen from distressed local multi-day fishing trawler off southern coast, through coordination of MRCC Colombo

The Sri Lanka Navy today (31st May 2024) rendered assistance to rescue 06 fishermen from a distressed local multi-day fishing trawler which was about 480 nautical miles (889km) off Dondra, south of Sri Lanka. The fishermen were retrieved by a tanker in the sea area, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo.

Over 617kg of smuggled Tendu leaves held in Northwestern waters

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the Uchchamunai sea area of Kalpitiya on 30th May 2024 led to the seizure of over 617kg (wet weight) of Tendu leaves, attempted to be smuggled into the country. During this operation, the Navy also apprehended 02 suspects and a dinghy used for this racket.

The operations also led to the seizure of 07 dinghies, about 400 sea cucumbers and unauthorized fishing gear employed for these illegal acts.

Navy aids in rescue of fishermen from distressed local fishing trawler in eastern waters

In a search and rescue operation led by the Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo, 03 fishermen from a distressed local fishing vessel were rescued off the east coast of Sri Lanka, about 42 nautical miles (77km) off the Batticaloa Lighthouse on 17th May 2024. One (01) of the rescued individuals was transferred to Trincomalee by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard for medical attention, while the remaining two (02) were transferred to Valaichchenai by another fishing vessel that was in the vicinity.
