Navy takes hold of over 1,300kg of smuggled Kendu leaves in Kalpitiya
Based on intelligence information, the Sri Lanka Navy recovered a massive haul of over 1,300kg of smuggled Kendu leaves during a search operation conducted in the Kudawa area of Kalpitiya on 18 Apr 26.
Accordingly, naval personnel from SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command carried out the search in the coastal scrublands of Kudawa. During the search, the team discovered 42 suspicious sacks within the thicket. Upon closer inspection, the sacks were found to contain approximately 1,302kg of Kendu leaves, which are suspected to have been smuggled into the country.
The seized consignment of smuggled items was subsequently handed over to the Puttalam Excise Department for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.
