A suspect nabbed for illegal possession of 1158 conch shells

In a coordinated operation on 25 Jan 26, the Sri Lanka Navy and the Fisheries Inspectorate of Mannar apprehended an individual (01) for the illegal possession of a significant stock (1158) of undersized conch shells in the Irukkalampiddi area.

The operation, conducted by SLNS Gajaba under the North Central Naval Command, involved the inspection of a suspicious house in Irukkalampiddi. During the search, the raiding party discovered and seized a total of 1,158 conch shells that failed to meet the legal circumference requirement of 70 mm.

The individual was identified as a 65-year-old resident of Irukkalampiddi, Mannar. The suspect and the confiscated conch shells were handed over to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for further investigation and legal action.
