Twenty-three (23) individuals held for engaging in illegal fishing

In separate operations conducted by the Navy from 14 to 19 Jan 26, twenty-three (23) individuals involved in various illegal fishing activities were apprehended along with 05 dinghies and 01 trawler in multiple locations across the island.

In the coastal areas of Jaya Nagar and Thakwa Nagar in Trincomalee, Akurala and Balapitiya in Galle and Delft and Point Pedro in Jaffna, the Eastern, Southern and Northern Naval Commands nabbed these individuals for their involvement in fishing with unauthorized nets and explosives, as well as engagement in illegal fishing methods.

The suspects along with fishing boats, explosives and unauthorized gear held in these separate operations were handed over to the Special Task Force Pulmoddai, Coast Guard Stations in Galle and Beruwala, Point Pedro Fisheries Inspector and Delft Police Station for onward legal action.
