Navy seizes fleet of illegal sand mining boats near Upparu Bridge
In an operation on 13 Jan 26, the Sri Lanka Navy held five (05) dinghies, loaded with illegally mined sand along the Mahaweli River, near the Upparu Bridge.
The search operation was conducted by naval personnel attached to SLNS Gokanna in the Eastern Naval Command. In addition to the illegally extracted sand load, the operation led to the seizure of approximately 30 liters of illicit liquor from the vicinity.
All items held in this operation were handed over to the Kinniya Police Station for further investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
