Navy takes hold of 1740kg of Kendu leaves in Chilaw seas
The Sri Lanka Navy seized a 1740kg haul of Kendu leaves during a search operation conducted in the seas off Chilaw on 10 Dec 25.
Acting on information received by SLNS Rangalla of the Western Naval Command, the search was conducted in the sea area off Chilaw on the evening of 10 Dec 25.
The operation led to the discovery and inspection of fifty-five (55) abandoned sacks floating in the area. The sacks were found to contain approximately 1,740 kg of Kendu leaves attempted to be smuggled into the country.
The seized consignment was subsequently handed over to the Customs Preventive Office at the Port of Colombo for further investigation and necessary legal action.
