Navy nabs 02 suspects with a stock of Kendu leaves in Puttalam
The Sri Lanka Navy seized a consignment of Kendu leaves, weighing about 542kg, and apprehended two suspects (02) and a cab, during a search operation in Puttalam on 09 Dec 25.
Acting on information received by SLNS Thambapanni of the Northwestern Naval Command, naval personnel conducted the search at the 61st Post Roadblock in Vijayakatupotha, Puttalam. The operation led to the inspection of a suspicious cab, which was found to be illegally transporting approximately 542kg of Kendu leaves. Accordingly, the Navy took into custody the consignment of Kendu leaves, the vehicle and the 02 suspects.
The apprehended individuals, aged 22 and 24, were identified as residents of Ethtale and Palavi in Puttalam. The suspects, the seized cab, and the consignment of Kendu leaves were handed over to the Puttalam Excise Department Special Unit for onward legal proceedings.
