Navy nabs 02 suspects in Puttalam with 699kg of Kendu leaves made ready for transport

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended about 699kg of Kendu leaves, a cab (01) and 02 suspects, during a search operation conducted in the Puttalam area on 25 Nov 25.

The Navy routinely conducts coordinated patrols and search operations across the island's coastal and sea areas to prevent a range of illicit acts, including the smuggling of contraband.

In continuation of these efforts, this operation was conducted by SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command, leading to the interception of the suspicious cab in the Puttalam Town. The subsequent inspection resulted in the discovery and seizure of approximately 699kg of Kendu leaves being prepared for transportation.

The suspects along with the stock of Kendu leaves and the vehicle held in this operation were handed over to the Puttalam Police for onward legal action.
