Navy seizes cannabis valued over Rs. 08 Mn in Uchchamunai Lagoon

During a search operation conducted in the Uchchamunai Lagoon, Kalpitiya on 04 Nov 25, the Sri Lanka Navy seized 02 dinghies with about 38kg of cannabis.

Working alongside the “Nation United” National Mission, the Navy continues to play a pivotal role to protect future generations from the drug menace by maintaining continuous surveillance along the island’s coastline and stepping up anti-narcotic operations.

Following a search operation mounted deploying naval craft in the Uchchamunai coastal vicinity by SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command, these suspicious dinghies (02) loaded with 18 parcels of cannabis weighing approx. 38kg were taken into naval custody.

The seized narcotics are estimated to have a street value exceeding Rs. 08 million. The stock of cannabis and the dinghy were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau, Puttalam for onward legal action.
