Four (04) suspects nabbed with cannabis valued over Rs. 23 Mn
A search operation mounted by the Navy and Police in Point Pedro on 01 Nov 25 led to the arrest of 04 suspects, including a woman, along with approx. 105kg of cannabis and 02 dinghies.
In line with the national drive, under the theme “Nation United” National Mission the Navy continues to play a pivotal role to protect future generations from the drug menace by maintaining continuous surveillance along the island’s coastline and conducting regular anti-narcotic operations.
As an extension of these operations, the Naval Detachment Point Pedro of SLNS Uththara in the Northern Naval Command and Point Pedro Police conducted this coordinated operation in the beach vicinity of Supparmadam and Mulliyawali area of Pallali. The operation made way for the arrest of 03 suspects on suspicion of smuggling cannabis, 02 dinghies, a hidden stash of about 105kg of cannabis from a house and a female suspect.
The suspects held in the operation were identified as residents of Supparmadam area of Point Pedro in Jafna, from 25 to 41 years of age. The suspects together with cannabis and dinghies were handed over to the Point Pedro Police for onward legal action.
