Cannabis valued over Rs. 20 million held in Arippu, Silawathura

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Arippu area of Silawathura in the early hours of 29 Jul 25 resulted in the seizure of about 101kg and 600g (wet weight) of cannabis.

The search operation was mounted by a group of naval personnel from the Northern and Northwestern Naval Commands in the Arippu area. The coordinated search led to the apprehension 43 sacks of cannabis weighing 101kg and 600g (wet weight), made ready for sale.

Meanwhile, the consignment of cannabis, believed to have been abandoned by smugglers due to increased naval surveillance in the area, is estimated to have a street value exceeding Rs. 20 million.

The stock of cannabis was handed over to the Silawathura Police for onward legal action.
