Ten (10) suspects with assortment of narcotic and tobacco products held during coordinated operations

In a series of coordinated operations from 05 to 19 July 2025, the Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Police, Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) and the Police Special Task Force, arrested 10 suspects. The joint search operations, conducted in Kadugannawa, Aladeniya, and Daulagala in Kandy, as well as Katunayake and Nilaveli areas, led to the seizure of an assortment of narcotic and tobacco products which included 10g and 40mg of methamphetamine, 11,860 foreign cigarettes, 264 prescription drugs, 33 bottles of foreign liquor, 5kg and 600g of kush and 104kg of Kerala cannabis.

In a coordinated operation, SLNS Shilpa belonging to the Western Naval Command and the Kadugannawa Police arrested 04 suspects in possession of 10g and 40mg of methamphetamine in Kadugannawa. Separately, a joint search operation with the Ambakotte Police STF led to the arrest of an individual carrying 2,400 foreign cigarettes in Aladeniya. Additionally, a collaborative effort with the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) in Kandy resulted in the seizure of a vehicle and the arrest of a suspect attempting to smuggle 6,300 foreign cigarettes in Daulagala.

Meanwhile, SLNS Rangalla and Minuwangoda Police STF collared 03 suspects with 3160 foreign cigarettes, 264 prescription drugs, 33 bottles of foreign liquor as well as 41kg of cardamom, during a search operation near the Katunayake Airport.

Moreover, SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command recovered, 5kg and 600g of kush in the beach area of Nadukuda. Additionally, SLNS Vijayaba in the Eastern Naval Command and Sardhapura STF nabbed a suspect with 104kg of Kerala cannabis in Kumburupiddi, Nilaveli.

The suspects held in these operations were identified as residents of Kadugannawa, Pilimathalawa, Gothatuwa, Colombo, Harispaththuwa, Kandy and Kumburupiddi areas, ranging from 20 to 62 years of age.

The suspects held in these separate operations were handed over to the Police stations of Kadugannawa, Aladeniya, Daulagala, Katunayake, Pesalai and Sardhapura Police STF for onward legal action.
