Navy takes hold of approx. 750kg of Kendu leaves in separate operations

Separate operations led by the Navy on 16 and 17 Jul 25 in Serakkuliya, Kalpitiya and Gangewadiya, Puttalam made way for the recovery of about 750kg of Kendu leaves and seizure of a dinghy.

Accordingly, the search operation mounted by naval personnel of Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) Headquarters in the Northwestern Naval Command in the Gangewadiya area on 16 Jul led to the recovery of a dinghy loaded with about 412kg of Kendu leaves. In another search operation carried out on 17 Jul, SLNS Vijaya took hold of about 338kg of Kendu leaves from shrubs in Serakkuliya beach vicinity.

The dinghy and stock of Kendu leaves held in these operations were handed over to the Office of Excise Department in Puttalam for legal action.
