Suspect arrested with 2828kg of smuggled dried ginger in Norochcholai

A coordinated search operation by the Navy and Police in the Sanjeethawaththa area of Norochcholai on 19 Jul 25 led to the arrest of a suspect with about 2828kg of dried ginger, suspected to be smuggled.

The search was mounted by the Naval Detachment Norochcholai belonging to SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command with the assistance of the Norochcholai Police. Upon search of a suspicious house in the Sanjeethawaththa area, the raiding party recovered this massive stash of dried ginger in 70 sacks, suspected to be smuggled into the island. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of a suspect in connection to the incident.

The suspect was identified as a resident of the Norochcholai area, aged 33. The suspect together with the stock of dried ginger was handed over to the Norochcholai Police for onward legal action.
