Navy apprehends 02 individuals in Kalladi seas for transferring dried sea cucumbers exceeding permitted limit
During a special search operation, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended two individuals for illegally transporting approx. 673kg of dried sea cucumbers far exceeding the permitted limit in the Kalladi sea area, Kalpitiya on 05 Jul 25.
The Sri Lanka Navy maintains constant vigilance, carrying out patrols and search operations along the island's coastline to curb nefarious activities. These efforts help mitigate economic threats and national security risks linked to such illicit activities.
During this search operation conducted by SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command, naval personnel intercepted the suspicious dinghy carrying approximately 673kg of dried sea cucumbers, well above the licensed limit of 250kg. Additionally, the 02 individuals were taken into custody along with the seized stock of dried sea cucumbers and the dinghy employed for this illegal act.
The apprehended persons were identified as residents of the Kalpitiya area, aged 37 and 49. The 02 individuals together with the stock of dried sea cucumbers and the dinghy were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Puttalam for onward legal action.
