Naval operations seize Kendu leaves, Kerala cannabis and methamphetamine with 06 suspects on multiple locations

Separate operations conducted by the Navy from 20 to 25 May 25 resulted in the seizure of about 252kg (wet weight) of Kendu leaves, 12.75g of Kerala cannabis and 3g and 155mg of methamphetamine (ice). Additionally, six (06) suspects were apprehended in connection with the illegal activities.

SLNS Thammanna on 22 May took hold of about 252kg (wet weight) of Kendu leaves, during a search operation in the Talaimannar beach area. It is suspected that smugglers would have left behind the consignment due to heightened naval patrols in the area.

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Naval Dockyard with the Trincomalee Harbour Police in the town area of Trincomalee on 24 May resulted in the arrest of a suspect with approx. 12.75g of Kerala cannabis made ready to sell.

Meanwhile, separate operations conducted by SLNS Shilpa and Kadugannawa Police in Pilimathalawa and Kadugannawa on 19 and 21 May, made way for the arrest of 05 individuals with about 3g and 155mg of methamphetamine prepared for sale.

The suspect held with Kerala cannabis was handed over to the Trincomalee Harbour Police and the individuals apprehended with methamphetamine were handed over to the Kadugannawa Police for onward legal proceedings.
