Navy nabs 03 suspects with approx. 1158kg of smuggled dried ginger
A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Daluwa area in Puttalam on 11 Feb 25 led to the seizure of a cab which was transferring about 1158kg and 60g of smuggled dried ginger and 45kg of dried fish. The search also resulted in the apprehension of 03 suspects in connection to the illegal act.
The Sri Lanka Navy remains ever alert and conducts patrols and search operations in the coastal areas of the island to prevent the influx of illegal items.
In continuation of these efforts, the operation was carried out by SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command in the dark hours of 11 Feb. Acting on suspicion, the naval personnel searched a cab and discovered 32 sacks containing approximately 1158kg and 60g of smuggled dried ginger and 45kg of dried fish. Along with the smuggled items, 03 individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal activity were taken into naval custody.
The suspects held in this operation were identified as residents of Puttalam and Manalthottan areas. The suspects together with seized items will be handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake for onward legal action.
