A suspect apprehended with 3492 conch shells in Talaimannar

A coordinated operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force led to the apprehension of a suspect with 3492 conch shells, made ready for sale, in the Pesalai area, Talaimannar on 27 Jan 25.

On receipt of information, the operation was carried out by SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command in coordination with the Air Force Base in Mannar. The operation resulted in the apprehension of the suspect with 3492 conch shells, made ready for sale sans valid licence.

The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Pesalai, aged 42. The suspect, along with the stock of conch shells was handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for onward legal action.
