Nine (09) persons nabbed for engaging in illegal fishing in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 09 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets, during a search operation conducted in the sea area of Alas Garden, Trincomalee on 21st December 2024. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 02 dinghies used for this illegal activity.

The Sri Lanka Navy maintains a vigilant stance, actively engaging in operations to combat illegal fishing within its sea and coastal regions. This initiative aims to endorse and support legal fishing activities.

As an extension of these efforts, SLNS Vijayaba of the Eastern Naval Command apprehended these 09 persons and seized 02 dinghies, for their involvement in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets in the Alas Garden Sea area.

The persons apprehended during the operation were identified as residents of Kinniya, from 18 to 43 years of age. Those individuals along with the dinghies were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Trincomalee for onward legal action.
