Navy apprehends 10 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in Mannar
The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 10 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets, during a search operation conducted in the sea area of Southbar, Mannar on 08th November 2024. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a dinghy (01) used for this illegal activity.
The Sri Lanka Navy maintains a vigilant stance, actively engaging in operations to combat illegal fishing within its sea and coastal regions. This initiative aims to endorse and support legal fishing activities.
As an extension of these efforts, SLNS Gajaba of the North Central Naval Command apprehended these individuals (10) and seized the dingy (01), while they were engaging in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets in the sea area of Southbar.
The individuals apprehended during the operation were identified as residents of Mannar, Thavulpadu, Kalpitiya and Keere areas, from 18 to 44 years of age. Those individuals along with the dinghy were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mailadi for onward legal action.
