Navy apprehends 04 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 04 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets, during a search operation conducted off Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee on 05th November 2024. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a dinghy (01) used for this illegal activity.

The Sri Lanka Navy maintains a vigilant stance, actively engaging in operations to combat illegal fishing within its sea and coastal regions. This initiative aims to endorse and support legal fishing activities.

As an extension of these efforts, SLNS Walagamba of the Eastern Naval Command apprehended these individuals (04) and seized the dingy (01), for their involvement in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets in the sea area of Kuchchaveli.

The individuals apprehended during the operation were identified as residents of Kuchchaveli, from 17 to 37 years of age. Those individuals along with the dinghy were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Kuchchaveli for onward legal action.
