Navy flood relief teams deployed in several areas of Western Province
The Navy deployed 06 flood relief teams today (12th October 2024) across various areas in the Gampaha and Colombo districts of the Western Province. These teams were sent to aid communities affected by heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
In response to directives from the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, these relief teams were deployed to the low-lying areas of Kaduwela, Biyagama, and Ihalagama, which were affected by flooding caused by the overflowing of the Aththanagalu Oya and Kelani Ganga due to heavy rains. Throughout the day, these teams conducted flood relief operations to assist the affected communities.
Furthermore, the Navy has 24 relief teams on standby in the Western Naval Command, 9 teams in the Southern Naval Command, and 11 teams in the Northwestern Naval Command, totalling 44 teams, ready for immediate deployment when required.
