A suspect nabbed in Karuwalagaswewa while transferring 2020 foreign fags

In a coordinated operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF), a suspect was arrested with 2020 foreign cigarettes being carried in a bus. The raid took place in Karuwalagaswewa of Puttalam, on 05th October 2024.

On receipt of information by SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command, the search operation was conducted in coordination with the Police STF – Puttalam, focusing on the Karuwalagaswewa area. The search of a private bus on the road led to the arrest of the suspect (01) and seizure of these foreign cigarettes (2020) being carried by him.

The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Puttalam, aged 54. The suspect along with foreign cigarettes was handed over to the Karuwalagaswewa Police for onward legal action.
